WHITE PLAINS MEDICAL MALPRACTICE

NEWS OF SUPREME IMPORTANCE

Are you as tired as I am of waiting for the Supremes to issue their decision in the Wyethcase?  Well, here is something to think about until that day comes.

Marcia Coyle , writing in The National Law Journal  (h/t to Law.com), reports that an esteemed group of law professors, former judges and practitioners have approached the Attorney General, as well as the heads of the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, to push for changes in the operation of the U.S. Supreme Court.

They are as follows:

  • the initiation of “regular biennial appointments of new justices selected by the President and Senate in order to assure timely rotation within the membership of the Court”;
  • the duties of the Chief Justice would include advising impaired justices to retire;
  • implementing term limits of seven years for a chief justice; and
  • having experienced appellate judges (who are not members of the Supreme Court) compile “a substantial number of cases that the high court would then be required to decide on their merits.”
