A brief biography of Andrew Barovick's career.
Andrew Barovick is a graduate of Columbia College, of Columbia University, and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Upon graduation from law school, he entered public service, as a trial and appellate attorney in the office of the Queens County District Attorney, devoting himself to bringing justice to victims of crime. After the District Attorney’s Office, he worked for several years defending physicians and hospitals, and interfacing with the medical malpractice insurance companies that paid for the defense of the physicians and hospitals that they insured. While those years enabled Mr. Barovick to gain a thorough knowledge of medical malpractice litigation, he ultimately came to feel that he was on the wrong side, and wanted to once again be fighting to bring justice to victims. This time, though, the victims he had in mind had been hurt by medical malpractice and other forms of negligence.
He started his own firm, devoting his practice to plaintiff’s medical malpractice, and other catastrophic personal injury cases. He also researches and writes appeals and substantial motions in his practice areas.
When he is not prosecuting cases on behalf of his clients, he writes and lectures for Continuing Legal Education programs. In 2007, he wrote, with his mentor and colleague, Steven E. North, Esq., the “DAMAGES” section of Decisions 2007, the Continuing Legal Education program presented by the New York State Trial Lawyers Institute. Mr. Barovick lectured on the same subject to his colleagues in Westchester County, when Decisions 2007 was presented there.
Mr. Barovick is admitted to practice in New York State and Washington, D.C. and has argued before the highest court in New York State (the New York Court of Appeals, in Albany), and the highest local federal court (the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, in New York, New York). He has tried over 30 cases to verdict, and has argued the same number of appeals before appellate tribunals. He is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
In addition to membership in the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the Bronx County Bar Association, Mr. Barovick serves as a member of the Medical Malpractice Committee for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
